During the sixteenth century, high in the mountains of the Thuringer Forest, artisan families created glass works by hand over an open flame. These German natives developed a form of glassblowing unique in the 4,000-year history of the art. The concentration of expert glassblowers, glassmakers, painters and cutters established Lauscha Germany as the "Birthplace" of ornamental glass. They learned their skills from wandering Venetain traders, and created glass ornaments to adorn the Tannenbaum (fir tree) for the winter solstice festival. Early Christians adapted this custom to celebrate the birth of Christ, and the Christmas tree was born.
After World War II the Krebs family moved from Bohemia to Rosenheim, Germany, to continue the tradition. During the postwar years the Krebs family built a reputation for fine traditional ornaments, developing the exclusive colors and designs for which they are known throughout the world.
In 1973 Christmas by Krebs was formed and Roswell, New Mexico became home for this new family venture. We take great pride in our abilities to create and deliver some of the finest quality glass Christmas ornaments in the world.
